Woodinville High School Theatre Company is excited to present the upcoming spring musical, Urinetown: The Musical. Don’t let the title fool you; Urinetown: The Musical is a critically acclaimed, powerhouse of a musical. It won several Tonys, including best book and best original score, and it pays homage to Broadway greats like Fiddler on the Roof, Les Miserables, West Side Story, and Carousel. It has been called, “a love letter to the American musical in the form of a grenade." Based in the tradition of the British Pantomime, it is part love story, part class struggle, part melodrama, and part social commentary – with a dash of self-aware, ironic detachment.
The show is set in a dystopian city that has been plagued by drought for 20 years. The drought has been so severe that society has banned private bathrooms, requiring everyone to conserve water by using for-profit public amenities. These pay-to-pee bathrooms are controlled by a monopolizing corporation know as “Urine Good Company,” which keeps prices artificially high in order to maintain societal control and preserve the dwindling water. The company resorts to strong-arm tactics for those citizens who break the sanitation ordinances that prevent peeing anywhere other than the public amenities – banishing lawbreakers to the mythical Urinetown. Things may be changing though, as a brash, good-natured young man, named Bobby Strong, has begun questioning society’s regulations and the righteousness of those in power.
Urinetown’s cast is comprised of 35 Woodinville High School students, from a wide variety of backgrounds – from theatre, to choir, to band, to baseball and football. The show is the final stage performance for seniors Ben Griffin (Senator Fipp), Amelia Marshall (Ms. Pennywise), and Alondra Cochran (Ensemble). The cast is supported by a pit orchestra from the WHS music department, and the technical aspects of the show, from set building and lighting to publicity, are handled by crews of students from the WHS technical theatre program. Senior technical theatre students include: Sydney Bodman (Stage Manager and Paint Head), Bryce Wimberly (Master Carpenter), Connor Vache (Technical Assistant), Daniel Ochs (Sound), Mack Ohnemus (Lights), Maiah Swigert and Sallie Bieterman (Costumes), Amelia Marshall (Hair and Makeup), Jordan Bister (Props), and Hailey Fulton (House Manager).
The show is directed and produced by Josh Butchart; Kyra Rengstorf is the Music Director; Nathan Rengstorf is Pit Director and WHS alumni, Katie Mitchell is Choreographer.

Hello WHS Drama Parents!
Your Drama Booster Board is looking for a few energetic, drama-loving parents to fill those Booster Board spots vacated by parents of graduating students. The positions open are listed below. Please take a moment and consider taking on a board position next year! It is a great way to be involved and to encourage your child.
Leaders Wanted! We will have two or three open seats on our Drama Booster Executive Board next school year. We are looking for a Drama Booster co-president, treasurer and secretary. We need to fill these seats this spring so that the outgoing board can assist with the transition of the in-coming board. We would also like to fill as many Committee Chairs as we can this before next year to make for a smooth transition. If you are interested in volunteering, need more information or if you would like to recommend someone for any open seat, please contact our continuing co-president, Katharina Muller at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Committee Chairs Needed!
Your continued support of the WHS Drama program is greatly appreciated!
Thanks to all of you who came out to see our production of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)! (And may The Immortal Bard forgive us!)
